UFC 300: Reigning Champ Says Fight Happening at Landmark Event

UFC welterweight champion Leon Edwards has revealed that he plans to make his third title defense at UFC 300 on April 13, 2024. The milestone event already has three fights announced by UFC CEO Dana White, Edwards’ bout would be a good contender for a main card matchup.

Speaking to reporters at Villa Park on December 30, Edwards outlined plans to defend his belt in Vegas, though he didn’t reveal against whom:

“I will defend my belt in April at UFC 300… Then hopefully in the Summertime get a fight back home in Birmingham. I’m in talks with the UFC, so hopefully we can get it done.” h/t Daily Mail

After successfully defending his belt against Colby Covington in December 2023 — which many fans considered to be a farcical matchup as Covington was inactive for almost 700 days — Edwards will be looking to defend his title against an actual top contender.

Spearheading the lineup is Belal Muhammad, who is unbeaten in his last ten bouts, with the only blemish being an NC to Edwards back in 2021 due to eye-poke. Though, according to reporter Ariel Helwani, Shavkat Rakhmonov was also considered.

As he mentioned yesterday, the plan is for Leon Edwards to defend his title at UFC 300. As of now, the opponent slated to face him would be Belal Muhammad. Shavkat Rakhmonov definitely was in the mix, too.
